We fell in love the moment we met Otis and adopted him on 11/29/23 from Pasadena Humane Society. He was surrendered by his prior family for reasons unknown. Otis is a 1-2 year old Australian Shepherd.
He instantly became part of our family and is loved beyond words - a goofy Aussie wiggle butt.
On 12/30/23 we took Otis to the park, he was playing fetch and while running to retrieve the ball let out a loud yelp and has been limping ever since. He was seen at the ER, and referred to an Orthopedic Surgeon. He is now having difficulty walking and needs to be carried often.
We met with the Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Jaron Naiman, DVM at ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospitals where Otis was diagnosed with 2 Cranial Cruciate ligament ruptures and Meniscal tear. We were told the Cranial Cruciate ligament ruptures likely happened within the last 6 months and the meniscus tear was causing the severe pain. It is rare for a dog Otis’s age to have this condition.
Otis needs to have 2 TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy) surgeries!
TPLO is a procedure that does not attempt to emulate or reconstruct the CrCL, but rather changes the biomechanics of the knee to provide long-term stability. Otis also has a skin infection on his inner thighs that will need to be cleared prior to surgery to reduce his risk for a surgical site infection.
Otis is currently taking pain meds until surgery.
Please, we are asking for help. We have exhausted all options and any help is greatly appreciated.
Any contribution, no matter how big or small, will go such a long way to help Otis's recovery and I cannot stress how grateful my family and I would be for the help. Thank you.
