Hi, I am Kathi Wilson, an assistant professor at McMaster University in Hamilton (midwifery.mcmaster.ca). I know and work with Otis Kryzanauskas in the Midwifery Education Program. As a tutor in the program, I have also taught both Otis and his wife Melissa, who is a registered midwife in Hamilton and expecting their first child. Late on the evening of December 2, the house next to theirs caught fire and it spread to their home, causing it to be burned to the extent that it is completely uninhabitable (https://globalnews.ca/news/8422849/hamilton-mountain-residential-fire-homes-damaged/).  Although Otis and Melissa (and their furbaby) escaped without harm, they lost most of their possessions and will need to secure immediate long-term alternate housing in Hamilton's hot real estate/rental market and replace essential items. This is a terrible thing to happen to anyone, but especially at the beginning of winter, near Christmas and with a baby on the way.
