For those who know us from Holy Crepes, you probably know my dad, Oskar. We’ve had the privilege of serving our crepes at farmers markets and events all throughout Chicago, and over the years, so many of the people we’ve met have become much more than customers — they’ve become part of our community.

If you’ve ever stopped by our booth, you’ve probably seen my dad behind the crepe machine, talking with customers, making jokes, and putting his heart into every crepe he makes. One of the things he loves most about what we do is the people. He genuinely enjoys meeting everyone, having conversations, and making sure every customer has a great experience.

Unfortunately, he recently suffered a serious accident while preparing the crepe batter. The machine he was using is large and heavy, and it unexpectedly fell. The safety mechanism that should have automatically shut the machine off did not activate. In a split second, he reacted to protect himself, and unfortunately, his hand and fingers were severely injured.

He suffered significant injuries to two of his fingers, including damage to his tendons. Because of the extent of the injuries, he now needs reconstructive surgery, followed by treatment and a lengthy recovery.

This has been incredibly difficult for him and for our entire family. Along with the physical pain and emotional stress, the medical expenses have become a major financial burden. Between the hospital, surgery, medications, treatment, and recovery, we expect the total cost to be approximately $20,000.

That’s why we’re reaching out to the community that has supported Holy Crepes. Our goal is to raise enough to help cover these medical expenses so he can focus on healing and recovering without having to carry the full financial burden of this unexpected situation.
