Help my father, detained at 70 years old

Our Latino community is facing some tough times with the new administration and the changes in laws and policies. These changes have touched many families, and ours is one of them.

My father is currently detained and awaiting transfer to an ICE processing center. It's a difficult and uncertain time for us, and we're doing everything we can to navigate this challenging situation.

My name is Maria Lopez and I am one of Oscar’s daughter. He came to the United States from Guatemala at just 21, with a heart full of hope and a dream of building a better life. He found that life with my mother. She already had two daughters when they met, and he welcomed them into his heart and family without hesitation. Together, they built a life, having four children, though we sadly lost one at a young age. He's also a devoted grandfather to his stepdaughters' children, whom he loves dearly.

My dad is one of the most selfless people I know, always putting his family first. He's worked tirelessly to provide for us, and through it all, he's been striving to legalize his status. But the legal system is complex and expensive, and despite his unwavering efforts, it's been a long and difficult journey, even now at 70 years old.

On Sunday, February 16th, my father was at Walmart when his license plate was scanned and flagged. An officer pulled him over and subsequently arrested him. This experience has brought home the realities of the challenges our community faces.

I'm sharing our story because we need some help. We're determined to fight for my father and keep our family together. Any contribution, big or small, will make a real difference during this difficult time.

The funds raised will be used for immigration court filing fees, legal representation fees, and to help my mother, who is unemployed due to health issues.

Nuestra comunidad latina está enfrentando tiempos difíciles con la nueva administración y los cambios en leyes y políticas. Estos cambios han afectado a muchas familias, y la nuestra es una de ellas.

Actualmente, mi padre está detenido y esperando ser transferido a un centro de procesamiento de ICE. Es un momento difícil e incierto para nosotros, y estamos haciendo todo lo posible para superar esta situación desafiante.

Mi nombre es María López y soy una de las hijas de Oscar. Él llegó a los Estados Unidos desde Guatemala con solo 21 años, con un corazón lleno de esperanza y el sueño de construir una vida mejor. El encontró esa vida con mi madre. Ella ya tenía dos hijas cuando se conocieron, y él las recibió en su corazón y en su familia sin dudarlo. Juntos, construyeron una vida, tuvieron cuatro hijos, aunque lamentablemente perdimos a uno a una edad temprana. También es un abuelo devoto de los hijos de sus hijastras, a quienes ama entrañablemente.

Mi padre es una de las personas más desinteresadas que conozco, siempre pone a su familia primero. Ha trabajado incansablemente para mantenernos y, a pesar de todo, ha luchado por legalizar su estatus. Pero el sistema legal es complejo y costoso y, a pesar de sus inquebrantables esfuerzos, ha sido un viaje largo y difícil, incluso ahora que tiene 70 años.

El domingo 16 de febrero, mi padre estaba en Walmart cuando escanearon y marcaron su matrícula. Un oficial lo detuvo y, posteriormente, lo arrestó. Esta experiencia nos ha hecho ver la realidad de los desafíos que enfrenta nuestra comunidad.

Estoy compartiendo nuestra historia porque necesitamos ayuda. Estamos decididos a luchar por mi padre y mantener unida a nuestra familia. Cualquier contribución, grande o pequeña, marcará una verdadera diferencia durante este momento difícil.

Los fondos recaudados se utilizarán para pagar las tasas de presentación ante el tribunal de inmigración, los honorarios de representación legal y para ayudar a mi madre, que está desempleada debido a problemas de salud.
