Help Oscar defeat Cancer!

My name is Montserrat Olvera and I am starting this page in effort to raise awareness of my father Oscar's recent diagnosis. My family and I would like to share our father’s story, the story about the drastic changes that have occurred with his health. My dad, the bread winner and protector of our household was recently diagnosed with Cancer as well as fighting for his well-being. His story begins on November 26, 2020, where instead of spending it along with his family on thanksgiving, he was being admitted to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. After his admission, my father had his gallbladder urgently removed. After the surgery, my dad seemed to be recovering quickly which made us all very hopeful but as the two weeks were coming to an end and he was aiming to go back to work, he started to feel the same abdominal pain that led him to the emergency room previously. With huge worry, we took him to the emergency room only to be given the worst news that no family should ever have to hear. After the doctors ran more tests they confirmed that my dad had Leukemia. My dad was then transferred to more specialized care at the UNC Cancer Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. This news brought fear and uncertainty to our family especially with the proposed treatment plan for my dad. His treatment plan not only consists of an endless list of medications and immediate chemotherapy but also consists of a mandatory 1 month hospitalization separating our family from him due to the strict COVID-19 rules and protocols.

Mi nombre es Montserrat Olvera y comienzo esta página en un esfuerzo por dar a conocer el diagnóstico reciente de mi padre Oscar. A mi familia y a mí nos gustaría compartir la historia de nuestro padre, la historia de los drásticos cambios que se han producido en su salud. Mi papá, el sostén de la familia y protector de nuestra casa, fue diagnosticado recientemente con Cáncer. Su historia comienza el 26 de noviembre de 2020, donde en lugar de pasarla junto con su familia en acción de gracias, fue admitido en el Hospital de UNC en Chapel Hill, NC. Después de su admisión, a mi padre le removieron urgentemente la vesícula. Después de la cirugía, mi papá parecía recuperarse rápidamente, lo que nos dio mucha esperanza, pero a medida que las dos semanas llegaban a su fin y él tenía el objetivo de volver al trabajo, comenzó a sentir el mismo dolor abdominal que lo llevó a la sala de emergencias anteriormente. Con gran preocupación, lo llevamos a la sala de emergencias solo para recibir la peor noticia que ninguna familia debería tener que escuchar. Después de que los médicos realizaron más pruebas, confirmaron que mi padre tenía Leucemia. Luego, mi padre fue transferido a atención más especializada en el Hospital Oncológico de la UNC en Chapel Hill, NC. Esta noticia trajo miedo e incertidumbre a nuestra familia, especialmente con el plan de tratamiento propuesto para mi papá. Su plan de tratamiento no solo consiste en una lista interminable de medicamentos y quimioterapia inmediata, sino que también consiste en una hospitalización obligatoria de 1 mes que separa a nuestra familia de él debido a las estrictas reglas y protocolos de COVID-19.
 

This news has not only brought an emotional toll but also an economic one. Since my father was first hospitalized on November 26, 2020, he has not been able to go back to work and will not be able to do so for the foreseen future. During this stressful time my goal is to help my parents start an initial goal in effort to help start paying the oncoming hospital and house bills.

Esta noticia no solo ha tenido un impacto emocional, sino también económico. Desde que mi padre fue hospitalizado por primera vez el 26 de noviembre de 2020, no ha podido volver a trabajar y no podrá hacerlo en el futuro previsto. Durante este tiempo estresante, mi objetivo es ayudar a mis padres a comenzar un objetivo inicial en un esfuerzo por ayudar a comenzar a pagar las próximas facturas del hospital y la casa.
