Support Orphaned Children After the Naki Tragedy

Donation protected
In August 2025, Noah Okidia’s family and community in rural Kenya experienced an unimaginable tragedy. More than sixty of his relatives were returning from a funeral when their bus crashed near Kisumu, killing thirty close family members and devastating entire branches of his extended family. The affected families live in rural Kenya, where resources are extremely limited.

Many children were left orphaned or suddenly without the adults who supported their schooling. They now face the risk of dropping out because no one can afford school fees, uniforms, books, food, or transport. Some are staying with relatives who are struggling to meet basic needs while coping with their own losses.

With the new school term approaching, immediate support is essential to keep these children in school and help them begin to heal. Even a small contribution makes a meaningful difference in rural Kenya.

Funds will be managed locally by Sustainable Resources of Kenya (SR-K), a registered nonprofit working directly with affected families. All donations will go toward:
  • School fees
  • Uniforms, shoes, books, and learning materials
  • Food support for host families
  • Counseling and trauma care
  • Emergency needs like clothing and bedding

SR-K will maintain records, receipts, and child-by-child updates to ensure transparency. No salaries or overhead will be taken from donations.

My name is Alex Miyamoto, and I traveled to rural Kenya this past summer with Engineers Without Borders at Arizona State University to help implement a water filtration project at local schools. Our chapter has partnered with Noah and his community for more than a decade, and it is through this long standing relationship that I am helping organize support during this crisis.

Noah has supported us for years with generosity and trust. Now we have the chance to stand with his community during their most difficult moment. Your support helps ensure that these children can continue their education and rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

Thank you for taking the time to read and for any help you can offer.
