Hi my name is Oriana,
I'm a single mom of four(two still at home) in the 4th quarter of the RN program. I have two more quarters to go until I graduate. My rent in the apartment I've been in for 8 yrs since leaving a DV shelter has gone up $600 in the last two years. I have been struggling to keep up. I recently lost my father in February who had been living with me the last two years since his Cancer diagnosis. I was able to pass that quarter with some support from my professors. I was not able to bring myself to also work my normal weekend shifts at the hospital though. It cost me $2000 to take care of my father's last expenses, and I fell behind on my rent of $1800 a month. Compounded with the increases I am drowning. I have been referred for a subsidized student housing apartment that would be affordable until I graduate, but I need just a little more time. The third party verification is having trouble verifying my 3 sources of income and needs to run two more screenings for the other two (I make just more than the 2.5 X rent),and I have two small credit card debts. I have just enough to pay those because I was planning on moving. I don't have the back rent to be able to stay here longer. The landlord just wants his money or me gone so he can make it. I'm asking for help to have the time to get into to this affordable housing apartment. I need about 1-2 more weeks here to straighten everything out and get into this affordable housing unit that will set us to bo ok until I graduate. I know it is a lot of money. I feel terrible that the alternative is a motel, giving up our 2 pets, a storage unit, and trying to take finals next week from wherever that might be, and uprooting my autistic child. I have one more week until break for summer quarter. If I could just get enough to be caught up here the landlord will let me stay two more weeks and I will be able to get into to the affordable housing. I hate asking for help as I'm usually the helper. I show up for everyone in my community as much as I can. I volunteer feeding the homeless, organize events to give back, and fought for the tenants rights initiative to pass. I hate that I am the one needing help this time. If you can donate anything to help us stay here we'd be so grateful. I meet all the criteria for the student housing and have passed most of the verification process. I have an appointment Friday to tour and speak with the property manager. Anything at all will help us to stay here.
Thank you Tacoma,
Oriana
