Opie, or as we lovingly call him, Opie dopie, has been a part of our family since February 2022. He was born in January of that year and came into my life as a tiny, three-week-old puppy with a serious abscess on his eye. Despite our best efforts, the infection wouldn’t heal, and we had to make the difficult decision to remove his eye when he was just six weeks old. Since then, Opie has never let anything slow him down. He’s incredibly outgoing, loves playing with his fur brothers and sisters, and is gentle with small animals and babies. He adores cuddles, snores like crazy, and has a special bond with his dad—who loves him just as much as Opie loves him. I still remember calling, tears streaming down my face, begging to bring him home, and I’m so grateful we did.

About a year ago, we noticed Opie’s eye area starting to swell again. At first, we thought it was just another infection, but after X-rays and an attempt to drain the mass, we received the heartbreaking news that it’s cancer. Thankfully, it doesn’t appear to be aggressive, but the mass is right next to his brain, on the scar from his previous surgery, and it needs to be removed. The surgery and any follow-up treatments, like radiation, are more than we can manage on our own, and we want to give Opie the best chance at a long, happy life.
