Ophelia was the fourth addition to our family, and we always said three cats was our max—but then along came this little one-eyed, spunky furball. Our old neighbors asked if we could foster her because she was going to be euthanized. We couldn't let that happen, so we took her in. As soon as I met her, I knew she would be staying with us forever. Ophelia was so loving, trusting, kind, and affectionate despite just losing her eye from the terrible conditions of the hoarder home she was rescued from.

When we first got her, we were told she was only one year old, and we believed it because she had so much energy and was so playful. She quickly wormed her way into all of our hearts. Our three other cats warmed up to her so easily, and we've been a happy family ever since January of 2022. Only four short years later, we found out through an emergency vet visit that our little baby of the family, Ophelia, was actually over ten years old. Our vet just gave us the devastating news that she is in stage 4 out of 4 kidney failure. We have an appointment on Thursday with the vet to see what our options are.

I have never reached out to the public for help before, but with our recent move to San Francisco, we have used all of our savings. We just want to be able to give our precious Ophelia the best chance she can have at whatever time she has left. If the vet on Thursday tells us we need to say goodbye we would prefer to have someone do it at our home so she can spend her last moments feeling safe and not scared at a vet office. Any amount given is so greatly appreciated and will go towards the cost of her needs for her end of life care.
