Description: Our family’s journey in healthcare began in the 1980s, when my mom transformed the front of our home on busy Kasi Road in Quetta, Balochistan, into a one-room clinic. The back of the building was our living space, and as kids, we would help by welcoming patients, taking vital signs, and supporting her however we could. The cost of seeing a patient was just 50 Pakistani rupees, and many who couldn’t pay were still treated at no cost. No poor patient was ever turned away, a tradition my mom has kept alive for decades.

Driven by her passion for women and children’s health, my mom did everything herself, from performing ultrasounds with equipment she bought through self-earned savings and loans, to handling surgeries, deliveries, and childcare. Her dedication has touched countless lives, including women and children from Pakistan, neighboring Afghanistan, and the large refugee population in the area.

One of the most remarkable moments in her career came in June 2007, when an Afghan woman named Ruqaiya gave birth to healthy quintuplets—four boys and one girl—at Bolan Medical College Hospital in Quetta, under my mom’s care. This rare, spontaneous birth without fertility treatments was the first set of quintuplets born in Quetta, and all five babies, along with their mother, were in good health following the delivery. The story was featured worldwide, including in medical journals and news outlets such as the credible Dawn newspaper, and published in one of the mainstream journals, Fertility and Sterility, highlighting my mom’s expertise and compassion for refugee families in need.

Now, her dream is becoming a reality as we work to open the Dr. Mahrukh Fatima Hospital for Women and Child Healthcare in our hometown village of Samali, Kuchlak. The new hospital building is nearly complete, marking a huge step forward from our humble beginnings. We are seeking support to finish construction, purchase vital medical equipment, hire and support staff, and cover costs for patients who cannot afford care. By moving services from the center of Quetta to Samali, we hope to make quality healthcare more accessible to those who need it most. Every donation will help us open the doors of this new hospital and ensure that no woman or child is turned away due to financial hardship. Your generosity can make a lasting difference in the lives of countless families. Please consider donating and sharing our story to help us bring hope and healing to our community.
