Please consider helping Opal and me travel to the Odyssey of the Mind World Championship Finals at Michigan State University!
Opal and five other fifth graders from Rockford Public Schools have earned first place at both the Regional and State Championships. Her team has been invited to compete alongside 800 teams from around the world at a 4-day long creativity competition. The kids spent the last several months building a self-propelled, ride-on vehicle, writing a play, making sets, and rehearsing. They had no adult intervention during any of their work and were allowed a budget of only $125 for their whole project. They repurposed many items that would have ended up in trash or recycling bins. We are extremely proud of these bright kids. We are raising money for room and board in an MSU dorm, food, shuttle bus rides around campus, and all activities for these 4 days of events. We will also design our own team t-shirts and custom enamel pins. Pin trading is a long-held event at the World Championships. Teams from around the globe will bring their own custom-designed pins, and kids from all over will trade pins and learn about kids from other cultures.
We appreciate your kindness! Opal, her team, coaches, and we parents are extremely excited to be able to experience this monumental event. And we parents are so proud of these kids. Thank you all for your support.
