Opal is only 25 years old. She came from Thailand to the United States through the J-1 Summer Work and Travel program. She was supposed to return home in September. Instead, she is now recovering from a serious car accident and a stroke, thousands of miles away from her family.

On September 12, 2026, Opal and her friends were involved in a multi-vehicle accident in Modesto, California. She was seriously injured and taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Opal needed emergency surgery for injuries to her pelvis, ribs, and lung. A few days later, she suffered a stroke that left the left side of her body weak.

Today, Opal still cannot walk and cannot sit up for long periods of time. She needs physical therapy, continued care, and help with everyday activities. Her medical team estimates that she may need at least 6 to 8 weeks after surgery before she can safely fly, possibly longer depending on her recovery.

Why Opal Needs Our Help

Opal's medical insurance is ending soon. The rental vehicle's insurance does not cover her medical expenses, and getting the rehabilitation care she needs without insurance has been extremely difficult.

Her parents and family live in northeastern Thailand and have limited financial resources. They are unable to travel to the United States to care for her, so Opal is going through this difficult recovery far away from her family.

Our goal is to help care for Opal while she recovers and bring her safely home to Thailand as soon as her medical team says she is able to travel.

Donations will help with her medical care, physical therapy, daily care, and the cost of getting her safely back to Thailand.

My name is Sirikul "Pui" Brown, a Thai community volunteer helping Opal and her family. I have permission from Opal and her family to share her story and organize this fundraiser. Opal is the beneficiary of the funds raised.

จุฬารัตน์ หรือ โอปอ อายุ 25 ปี เพิ่งสำเร็จการศึกษาจากมหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ เดินทางมาสหรัฐอเมริกาด้วยวีซ่า J-1 โครงการ Summer Work and Travel หลังจากจบงานแล้วโอปอจะต้องกลับไทยในเดือนกันยายน แต่โชคร้ายเกิดอุบัติเหตุทางรถยนต์ ต้องเข้ารับการรักษาตัวห่างไกลจากครอบครัวเป็นพันๆ ไมล์

คืนวันที่ 12 กันยายน ขณะที่โอปอขับรถพาเพื่อนๆ เดินทางกลับไปยังซานฟรานซิสโก รถตู้ที่โอปอขับประสบอุบัติเหตุรถชนกันหลายคันในเมือง Modesto โอปอได้รับบาดเจ็บสาหัสและหมดสติ รถพยาบาลนำส่งโรงพยาบาล Memorial Medical Center ขณะนี้ทางตำรวจยังอยู่ระหว่างการสืบสวน

โอปอต้องเข้ารับการผ่าตัดเร่งด่วนเนื่องจากกระดูกเชิงกรานแตก กระดูกซี่โครงหักทิ่มปอด หลังผ่าตัดไม่กี่วัน โอปอมีภาวะแทรกซ้อนสำคัญคือ stroke ซึ่งทำให้ร่างกายซีกซ้ายอ่อนแรง ตอนนี้โอปอเดินไม่ได้และยังนั่งได้ไม่นาน ร่างกายซีกซ้ายอ่อนแรงและขยับได้ไม่ดี ต้องทำกายภาพบำบัดอย่างต่อเนื่อง และต้องมีผู้ช่วยดูแลในกิจวัตรประจำวัน ทีมแพทย์ประเมินว่าจะต้องใช้เวลาประมาณ 6-8 สัปดาห์หลังการผ่าตัด ก่อนที่จะสามารถเดินทางโดยเครื่องบิน และอาจนานกว่านั้นขึ้นอยู่กับการฟื้นตัว

⚜️ทำไมโอปอจึงต้องการความช่วยเหลือจากคนไทย⚜️

ประกันสุขภาพของโอปอกำลังจะหมดอายุในอีกไม่นานนี้ ประกันของรถเช่าที่ซื้อไว้ไม่ครอบคลุมค่าใช้จ่ายด้านการรักษาพยาบาล การเข้ารับการรักษาที่สถานบำบัดฟื้นฟูผู้ป่วยก็เป็นเรื่องยากมากเพราะโอปอไม่มีประกันสุขภาพ

คุณพ่อคุณแม่และครอบครัวของโอปออาศัยอยู่ในจังหวัดเล็กๆ ทางภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ มีกำลังทางการเงินที่จำกัด ไม่สามารถเดินทางมาหาโอปอที่อเมริกาได้ ในช่วงพักรักษาตัวนี้โอปอจึงไม่มีใคร ไม่มีญาติพี่น้องมาดูแล

จุดประสงค์สำคัญในการเปิดรับบริจาคคือการดูแลรักษาพยาบาลและพาโอปอกลับประเทศไทยสู่อ้อมกอดของครอบครัวในทันทีเมื่อทีมแพทย์แจ้งว่าโอปอแข็งแรงพอที่จะเดินทาง เงินบริจาคจะนำไปช่วยโอปอในเรื่องของค่ารักษาพยาบาล กายภาพบำบัด ค่าดูแลในแต่ละวัน และค่าใช้จ่ายต่างๆ ในการเดินทางกลับประเทศไทยได้อย่างปลอดภัย
