Save Oniquca’s Vision
Hi! My name is Oniquca Swaby. I am a 25 year old Science Teacher here in Jamaica and I am losing my sight.
I have been diagnosed with an eye disease called Keratoconus a very rare condition. The condition causes the cornea to be thinning and bulging which results in very unstable and poor vision.
In one year, for instance, I had to change glasses three times, each time having to increase the 'medicine' but the challenges with my vision did not improve.
The condition of my eyes worsened during the pandemic as a result of online teaching; which lead to the rapid deterioration of the cornea of my left eye. I am unable to see clearly, especially from my left eye. Everything is blurry; I cannot make out faces beyond approx. 8ft from me. I also have difficulty marking students' work on the laptop or even doing daily activities.
I consulted a local ophthalmologist who diagnosed the condition, however treatment is only available overseas. An eye doctor in Texas has agreed to perform this critical surgery which costs US$15,000 ($2,250,000) in order to salvage my sight.
I have 1 month to come up with this figure.
I need your help to accumulate the funds to access this surgery. Help me save my sight.
