Help Onandrah Escape Violence and Homelessness

(9/17/2025) Update from Onandrah: "we finally found a place in Gudele, Juba where we feel safe ✨ it’s not perfect, but just being able to rest without fear feels like such a blessing. honestly, we wouldn’t have made it without all the love, prayers, and strength people have sent our way. me and my sisters are so so grateful… your words kept us going when things felt impossible. thank you for standing with me even from far away, i’ve really felt you beside me"

From Min (the owner of the GoFundMe): Thanks to y'all's kind efforts, Onandrah has reached her original goal of $5k! This has gone towards various vital expenses such as relocation, medical care (hospital visits, medicine, etc.), food and cooking supplies like oil, and now, made possible thanks to each and every donor, monthly rent. The money donated has gone towards not just Onandrah herself; as a true testament to her character, she has also chosen to use this money to support her friends and fellow trans sisters in their time of need, particularly in terms of medical care. Now, living in an apartment in the city away from Gorom, she needs help to pay off her existing medical bills as well as pay for rent (for which she is currently two months behind). While she has been trying to find work, doing so as a transgender individual in South Sudan is exceedingly difficult, even in the city. Any donations from here on out will be to help her pay her monthly rent (as well as whatever else she may need) while she tries to get her work permit.
I know I can speak for the both of us when I say that my heart has been touched by the charitable and good-hearted nature that has been shown by you all to Onandrah and her sisters. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for supporting one of the sweetest and most genuine people I know. We are both incredibly grateful for your support.

My name is Onandrah, a proud trans woman and refugee with HIV currently living in gorom settlement camp south sudan and I am reaching out to you with a heavy heart, seeking your compassion, understanding, and support. As a proud trans and member of the LGBTQ+ community and a survivor of persecution, I am here to share my story of resilience and the desperate need for assistance.

Five years ago, I fled my home country of Uganda, where my identity made me a target of violence and discrimination. In search of safety, I embarked on a perilous journey that ultimately led me to the Gorom Settlement Camp in Juba, South Sudan. This journey has been filled with unimaginable hardships, but I refuse to let despair define my path.

Since my arrival in Gorom, I have faced countless challenges, including extreme poverty, lack of access to basic necessities, and the constant threat of violence. I am not just fighting for my own survival; I am also advocating for my other trans sisters whom we share similar struggles. The weight of this responsibility is immense, and I strive to provide a glimmer of hope for those who feel lost.

Today, I find myself in urgent need of support. Basic necessities like food, clean water, shelter, and medical care have become luxuries I cannot afford. Hunger is a constant companion, and the harsh conditions in the camp have taken a toll on my health and spirit. Despite these overwhelming challenges, my determination remains unyielding. I believe in the power of kindness and empathy, which motivates me to reach out to you.

The funds raised through this GoFundMe campaign will be used to address our most immediate needs. They will help secure safe housing, ensuring that I and others in my care have a roof over our heads. These funds will provide nourishing meals, clean water, and access to healthcare, allowing us to regain our strength and hope. Additionally, your support will help create sustainable livelihood opportunities, empowering us to break free from the cycle of poverty and build a brighter future.

Your contribution, no matter how small, will make a profound difference in our lives. It will not only alleviate our suffering but also serve as a powerful reminder that compassion and solidarity still exist in this world.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read my story and for considering my plea for help. Your generosity will not be forgotten, and together, we can create a spirit of humanity that transcends our struggles.

My name is Min Fowler from Texas, USA, and I made this GoFundMe page on Onandrah's behalf. Onandrah contacted me on Bluesky via direct messages and politely asked if she could share her story with me and hear my thoughts. It's not uncommon that I get messages from people who need help, but for some reason, her message stood out to me. When I read what she had to say, it broke my heart. Nobody should ever be endangered, persecuted, or displaced simply because of their gender identity or who they decide to love, and Onandrah is certainly no exception. All funds donated will go directly to Onandrah in as timely a manner as possible.
