Omar Alfredo Casas Varela nació el 21 de Agosto de 2004 en la Ciudad de Tucson, Arizona. Hijo de Vanessa Varela Molina y Gisi A. Casas Medina.

A sus cuatro años de edad se integró a su vida Jesus E. Molina su padrastro, quien lo crió al lado de su madre Vanessa y sus hermanos J. James, Vanessa L. e Ian Rey Molina Varela.

Omar estaba en el 12th grado escolar a punto de terminar su preparatoria en Tucson High Magnet School. Su interés profesional se inclinaba hacia el área de Zoología, debido al inmenso amor que sentía por el reino animal.

Dentro de sus pasatiempos favoritos se encontraba ser un coleccionista apasionado de artículos valiosos de videojuegos y pingüinos de todo tipo, también disfrutaba la música, el baile, la lectura, los videojuegos, juegos de mesa, Legos, Pokémon game cards, tocar piano y pasar tiempo de calidad con su familia y amigos.

Desde pequeño desarrolló el amor por los pingüinos, primero por ser muy adorables y por sus colores, luego por ser muy unidos como familia, el apoyo incondicional y la lealtad que los caracteriza.

Desde su nacimiento padeció de anemia congénita que constantemente amenazaba su vida. Para poder sobrevivir su enfermedad, el recibió múltiples transfusiones de sangre durante toda su vida (alrededor de 900), esto le causó exceso de hierro en la sangre e hígado.

Por este motivo en el verano del año 2017, fue necesario realizarle tres trasplantes de médula ósea en un período de 60 días; finalmente el tercer trasplante fue exitoso, rompiendo los récords mundiales al convertirse en el primer y único ser humano en sobrevivir consecutivamente esta cantidad de trasplantes (por su gran tolerancia a la alta toxicidad e intensidad de quimioterapias/radiaciones) y en ser el primer paciente pediátrico con su tipo de anemia (CDA tipo IV) en recibir un trasplante haploidéntico. A raíz de esto desarrolló otra enfermedad mortal GVHD crónico y una nueva lucha comenzó.

Omar era un joven muy alegre y feliz, lleno de amor y luz, con un corazón bondadoso y humilde, su mente, cuerpo y espíritu estaban en sintonía de una manera impresionante, esto le permitió disfrutar al máximo las pequeñas cosas de la vida, ser capaz de amar, sonreír, hacer bromas, bailar y cantar a pesar de las adversidades; las personas que tuvieron la dicha de conocerlo y/o formar parte de su vida podían sentir el amor y energía que él transmitía con sus abrazos tan suaves, sinceros y su sonrisa contagiosa.

Él amaba tanto la vida que de la mano de Dios y la gran madre que él eligió, ganó muchísimas batallas, superando cada obstáculo que se le presentaba, en forma de milagro. Fue un héroe, guerrero incansable, digno de admiración y respeto que nunca se rindió hasta el último momento.

Fue una gran inspiración y ejemplo de fuerza, valentía, fe, determinación, resiliencia, perseverancia, tolerancia, adaptación, aceptación, entre otras. Nos deja una gran huella de su caminar por esta vida terrenal, lecciones de vida y muchas enseñanzas.

Vivió una larga vida a su corta edad, él sembró mucho amor en todas las personas que lo rodeaban y será recordado con el mismo amor por sus padres, familiares, amigos y personal médico de Banner, que fue su segundo hogar y familia, luchando a su lado a largo de toda su vida.

Omar finalmente fue llamado por Dios para permanecer a su lado como uno más de sus ángeles en el cielo, el día 15 de febrero del año 2022.

Omar was a 12th grader about to finish high school at Tucson High Magnet School. His professional interest leaned towards the area of Zoology, due to the immense love he felt for the animal kingdom.

Among his favorite hobbies was being a passionate collector of valuable video game items and penguins of all kinds, he also enjoyed music, dancing, reading, video games, board games, Legos, Pokémon game cards, playing the piano and hanging out. quality time with your family and friends.

Since he was a child he developed a love for penguins, first for being very adorable and for their colors, then for being very close as a family, the unconditional support and loyalty that characterizes them.

From his birth he suffered from congenital anemia that constantly threatened his life. In order to survive his illness, he received multiple blood transfusions throughout his life (about 900), which caused excess iron in his blood and liver.

For this reason, in the summer of 2017, it was necessary to perform three bone marrow transplants in a period of 60 days; Finally, the third transplant was successful, breaking world records by becoming the first and only human being to consecutively survive this number of transplants (due to his great tolerance to the high toxicity and intensity of chemotherapies/radiation) and to be the first pediatric patient with his type of anemia (CDA type IV) to receive a haploidentical transplant. As a result of this he developed another fatal disease chronic GVHD and a new fight began.

Omar was a very cheerful and happy young man, full of love and light, with a kind and humble heart, his mind, body and spirit were in tune in an impressive way, this allowed him to fully enjoy the little things in life, to be able to love, smile, make jokes, dance and sing despite adversity; The people who had the joy of knowing him and/or being part of his life could feel the love and energy that he transmitted with his soft, sincere hugs and his contagious smile.

He loved life so much that from the hand of God and the great mother he chose, he won many battles, overcoming every obstacle that came his way, in the form of a miracle. He was a hero, a tireless warrior, worthy of admiration and respect who never gave up until the last moment.

He was a great inspiration and example of strength, courage, faith, determination, resilience, perseverance, tolerance, adaptation, acceptance, among others. He leaves us a great imprint of his walk through this earthly life, life lessons and many teachings.

He lived a long life at his young age, he sowed much love in all the people around him and will be remembered with the same love by his parents, relatives, friends and medical staff of Banner, which was his second home and family, fighting his side throughout his life.

Omar was finally called by God to stay by his side as one of his angels in heaven, on February 15, 2022.
