On Friday, 1/19, I was working with a guest and reached for my scissors. They got caught in my smock, and I quickly went to try and catch them as I thought they were falling. Unfortunately, one of the scissor blades was sticking straight out. As I pulled my arm inward, the blade made contact, piercing my palm and exiting through the top of my hand, severing two tendons in the process. I recently had surgery to reconnect the tendons and doctors estimate about 8 weeks until I am fully recovered. Until then, I physically can’t work, which means I can’t make the money I need to provide for my family and keep my business afloat.
As a hair stylist, my hands are the key to my livelihood. As a small business owner, I don’t have PTO or medical leave or a financial safety net. Health insurance isn’t cutting it. I’m up against thousands in medical bills, on top of monthly expenses that aren’t going to stop just because I’m stopped. I have worked so hard for so many years to build myself and my business up to where I am today, and right now, it feels like it is all about to be stripped away. I’m out of options. I need help.
This has been a very traumatic experience for me, but now that I am on the road to recovery, I’m trying to stay as positive as possible. All of the supportive messages, gift cards, flowers have been so comforting and I’m so grateful for everyone who has been there for me. I know in my heart that I’ll make it through this setback, but I can’t financially do it alone. Many people have asked how they can help, and this would be such a meaningful way to make a difference for me and my family. Anything you can give means the world to me. Thank you.
