Help Omar Overcome Guillain-Barré and Heal

On March 26th Omar, aka Omie, received a flu shot that was mandatory for his new job. Twelve days later he began having tingling and numbness in his feet and hands, major fatigue and then facial paralysis. They went to the ER twice only to be given minimal testing and to be turned away due to an overcrowded ER. Omar’s condition continued to worsen and he couldn’t stay awake due to weakness.

In desperation, they drove him 4 hours to John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. God brought them to the right place. Their attentiveness to the detail of every symptom is quite impressive. After many tests, they are treating him for Guillain-Barré Syndrome. This treatment requires an intravenous injection over 5 days and physical therapy. Time is so vital, and we are so grateful to catch this early. Omar, at this time, is still unable to eat solid foods due to the facial paralysis, but is showing small improvements which is HUGE.

Unfortunately, life expenses do not cease. This hit them as Omar was beginning his new job, and Belle has been out on leave since the 14th of April. He has been in the hospital for 8 days and is expected to remain at least 3 more days. Monthly expenses of living plus all the extra expenses of staying at a hospital and the unknown length of physical therapy add up and we are assuring Omar to focus on getting better.
