Omar is a friend to all—one of the most generous, kind, and genuinely funny people I’ve ever known. A master curator of vintage treasures, he made a living collecting and selling unique finds, always sharing a little something with friends along the way. In our house music community, he’s lovingly known as “Cuckoo Bird,” and his warmth, humor, and spirit have touched countless lives.
Until recently, Omar was doing well. But everything changed during a move from North Hollywood to East LA. He lost much of his property, and soon after, his van was impounded—with all of his canopies, tables, and carefully collected vintage items inside. These were not just possessions, but tools of his livelihood and treasures gathered over many years. The loss was devastating.
After ten years of sobriety, the weight of these setbacks led Omar to relapse, and he has been struggling with his mental health ever since. Even in his own pain, Omar continues to encourage others—reminding us that we all fall short sometimes, and that forgiveness, hope, and recovery are always possible.
Unfortunately, life in East LA continued to be difficult, and Omar made the decision to move again. On the day he was packing and moving his remaining belongings into storage, he was violently assaulted for briefly blocking someone’s driveway. The attack caused multiple fractures to his nose, skull, jaw, and orbital bone, along with a brain bleed. His dental bridge was also broken and forced into his gums during the assault and will need to be replaced. Thankfully, Omar is now out of the hospital, sober, and will not require reconstructive surgery—a tremendous relief.
As he recovers, Omar faces mounting medical bills. His storage unit needs to be maintained, and he will need ongoing dental care. He is currently staying with family while he heals and searches for a quiet, safe place where he and his beloved dog, Cosmo, can rebuild their lives.
Omar has lost everything—but with our help, he can begin again. Any support will go directly toward his medical expenses, storage fees, and the basic necessities he needs to recover and regain stability. If you’re able, please consider helping Omar and Cosmo during this incredibly difficult time. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, truly makes a difference.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and God bless you all.
