Omar and Tawanda Lightner and their children, Jayla (10), Jasmine (8) and Jamal (6) are facing eviction from a motel in Jacksonville, FL where they have been living since Omar lost his job. Two of the Lightner kids have autism and need services and medication. The Lightner family, profiled in the BBC article above, has been trying to hold out for additional assistance from the US government to get back on their feet into a job and permanent housing.
We could help this family celebrate Christmas in the hotel or a new rental home instead of facing homelessness in a dire economy during a Covid spike. I don't know this family, but their story moved me, and while this campaign would only meet a tiny amount of the vast need in this country that our politicians continue to ignore, it would make a world of difference to this family. Please help if you can.
