My name is Sasha Kramer and I am organizing this campaign on behalf of a young man who I have been honored to know for nearly 15 years. Olivier Jean-Pierre is a brilliant and compassionate young Haitian who I met in 2010 when his mother worked with SOIL. His mother was one of the kindest people I have met. Sadly she passed away in 2013 and since then Olivier and his siblings have had to make their own way. Against all odds, Olivier sought out opportunities and won a scholarship to medical school in Venezuela. I first met Olivier when he was in high school and have always been deeply impressed by his ambition and commitment to his country. His dream has always been to become a doctor and, thanks to his hard work in winning a scholarship, studying and setting up his life in Venezuela, he is well on his way! Though Olivier is on a full scholarship, he still has to manage his living expenses and balancing medical school and generating an income is challenging even for the most dedicated. I am starting this campaign to help Olivier raise funds to buy a house which would allow him to have much more stability while also creating the opportunity to generate income for his daily expenses by renting out a room. He has already found several houses in the $3500 price range and I would love to rally his friends and those in my network who would like to make a concrete contribution to a young person fighting for positive change in his home country. Please consider supporting Olivier in his journey to practice medicine in Haiti. Men anpil chay pa lou (many hands make the load light).
Campaign update: Thanks to generous contributions Olivier was able to put a downpayment on an apartment! We only have $800 to raise for him to be able to finalize the payments and realize his dream of stability as he finishes medical school. THANK YOU ALL!
