Help Olivia Folk Compete at Her First National Championship

We’re asking for your help to support a remarkable young athlete, Olivia Folk, as she takes the next big step in her track and field journey - representing Ontario at the Royal Canadian Legion National Championships in Calgary this August.

Olivia is 14 years old and just completed Grade 9 at Banting Secondary School in London, Ontario. She joined the school track team this spring without any background in throwing events - just curiosity, courage, and the hope of learning something new.

What followed was extraordinary.

In only her first few months in the sport, Olivia qualified for the provincial championships (OFSAA) in all three throwing events - shot put, discus, and javelin - something few athletes ever achieve. She earned a silver medal in javelin, placed 4th in discus, and showed she belonged at the top level, even against more experienced athletes.

After the school season, she joined London Western Track & Field Club and continued to grow, throwing personal bests almost every week. She’s now ranked:

  • Top 10 in Canada in shot put
  • Top 15 in Canada in discus and javelin

Her strong performances recently earned her a spot at the Royal Canadian Legion National Championships - an invite-only meet for the best young athletes across the country. It’s an incredible opportunity for Olivia to test herself, learn, and take another step forward in a sport that’s quickly become a passion.

But here’s where she needs your help.

This past year has been tough for Olivia’s family. Both of her parents lost a parent, her dad lost his job, and her mom has been recovering from surgery. While they’ve supported her every step of the way, they simply can’t afford the costs of travel to Calgary.

Your donation will go directly toward covering:

  • Flights
  • Accommodation
  • Meals
  • Competition expenses

What makes Olivia so special isn’t just her talent, it’s her character. She lifts others up, encourages her teammates and even her competitors, and always carries herself with humility and kindness. At a recent meet, she took time during her own competition to comfort a struggling teammate. After a controversial call at OFSAA that cost her a medal, she still shook hands with the officials and thanked them for their time.

She’s exactly the kind of young person we should all want to support.

We believe Olivia has the potential to go far, not just in sport, but in life. This trip to Nationals could be a meaningful turning point for her.

If you’re able, please consider donating. Every bit helps.

With sincere thanks,
Sylvia Kontra (Coach, London Western Track & Field Club)
Julie Montes (Teacher/Coach, Banting Secondary School)
