Our baby girl, Olivia, has been fighting an incredibly complex medical journey since birth. She has CHD: tricuspid dysplasia, pulmonary atresia, cardiomegaly, severe regurgitation, and pulmonary vein stenosis. Olivia was given a very small chance of survival but made it through her first open heart surgery and is now 4 months old! However, we expected to be in Boston for a month or two, which has now turned into a long and ongoing hospital stay filled with surgeries, complications, and critical care. Olivia has faced serious conditions that have required intensive treatment, including infections, a bowel perforation leading to an ileostomy, blood clots, and ongoing nutritional and medical support. Most recently, she has been battling a fungal infection which caused sepsis and cardiac shock, leading to 3 weeks of intubation. Because of everything her body has been through, Olivia remains at very high risk for complications. She requires constant care, frequent labs, imaging, medications, and close observation from multiple specialist teams. Despite all of this, she continues to fight every single day with so much strength.

We have to stay until she receives another open heart procedure, which they are not sure how she will respond to and may lead to another. Then she will need to get established with feeds, or a GTube, reverse her ileostomy, and work on normal developmental milestones. We have been paying others to care for our pets back home, and Charlie travels back and forth every week with my toddler for 4 days. This situation has not only been emotionally overwhelming—it has also created a significant financial strain. The funds will help cover medical expenses not fully covered by insurance, travel costs for frequent hospital trips, pet care costs while we are away, food and daily living expenses during long hospital days, and lost income from time away from work to care for Olivia.
