I am the mother of a sweet 4-month-old boy named Oliver. My husband and I tried for a baby for 3 years before deciding to do IVF to have our son. Oliver was born full term at 5 pounds and 13 ounces on May 4th, 2024. When Ollie was born, we knew something was wrong from the movement of the doctors, and in the morning after his birth, he was put into an ambulance and rushed to a NICU across Orlando. After many tests and sleepless nights, we learned Ollie was born with a rare neurological condition that affects his brain development along with some parts of his physical development like the tone and strength of his arms, legs, and neck. One of the physical conditions he has is a tethered spinal cord along with an open dimple on his back. This requires surgery so Ollie has the best chance at a normal and painless life as he grows up. Ollie is also at risk of seizures, so he goes to the doctor for regular EEGs to monitor his brain activity, as well as going to OT, PT, and speech therapy to help him along the way as he grows. Ollie's future is very uncertain because every case is different, so all we can do is get him all the help he needs to live as close to normal as possible and devote our time and energy to helping him grow up happy and loved. With that said Oliver is beating the odds every single day. In the NICU we were told Ollie would never eat on his own, wouldnt move on his own and would have a very hard life; Oliver eats on his own and kicks and rolls over and is fighting every day to keep up with other babies his age as he smiles, coos, and giggles. He is already beating every expection that the doctors had for him and we are so proud of him. Oliver's spinal surgery and post-surgery EEG are what we are trying to raise money for at this time. His surgery and post-surgery EEG date is October 10th, costing over 40,000 dollars.
