Please Help Us Escape Unsafe Living Conditions!
Donation protected
Before we start It cannot be stressed enough that this gofundme is for us to escape here and not for the dogs Paloma and Canelo; we will start a second gofundme for the price of the dogs once someone can negotiate a price with the landlords.
Animal control will not allow us to provide any help to the dogs because it makes the landlord look as though he is caring for them so nothing can be donated or given to the dogs until their rescue or their abuser gets all the credit.
Hi,
We are Oliver and Jasper: A disabled couple on the West Coast! This is our doggie and ESA Kratos!
Oliver is a disabled veteran who currently has an injury so severe he cannot work. Due to me also being unable to work, we got evicted from our last apartment.
Someone who we thought was a friend and trusted told us that he inherited a home from his father and would need roommates to afford the mortgage so we moved in potentially temporarily potentially permanently.
When we got here, it was not what we expected and this friend is not who we expected.
The house is bad.....
And the treatment of animals....it was only the first signs of the kind of treatment we were in for.
We found two small dogs , a chihuahuas her son a chihuahua daschund, sleeping in a pile of wood nails and broken glass and we're told "it's fine they're outside dogs."
I began begging for proper treatment of the dogs and to bring them inside immediately which was a point of contention that only grew.
The mice we discovered on glue traps, screaming in terror and dying slowly. It was my horror to learn that he does not put them out of their misery and instead drops them still alive into the outside trash can.
We have been here only 2 months and the love bomb has worn off: Replaced by passive aggression, petty behavior, full on defamation, and aggressive behavior from his sister who they now claim owns the house but has been coming by as a landlord without 24 hour notice.
Eventually things became bad enough that we reported them to animal control who did nothing but provide a citation because in the 2 months we've been here he hasn't even bought dog food.
When I attempted to report him for a crime, he turned off the wifi so that I could not.
When I attempted to find my vital records so we can leave he turned off the power in the room where I was looking.
Both times a police officer asked him to turn the utilities back on and because of this we decided not to pay the $1000 they are now demanding we pay for 1 month in the smallest room in their house that is not legal to rent out.
I found out their entire total cost for mortgage and utilities is $1500 and find this to be extremely unreasonable to expect of us.
Because of this we have received a retaliatory eviction "one day notice" which is definitely void but is the third void notice we have received. This was AFTER the sister/landlord called me demanding money and threatening to force my dog to sleep outside in the yard 24/7.
I told her no 3 times and ignored her call 2 more times before texting her that the answer was no and she kept demanding the money.
She then showed up at the house with the one day notice and yelled and pointed at us very aggressively while demanding our IDs which i refused to give because something told me we'd never get them back.
She told us a 3 day notice means they can throw us out after 3 days, I explained how it actually works and she said no.
Finally after waiting for the cops for a while and trying to avoid a health episode sending me to the ER due to the stress we finally got them to hand us the notice after which our bedroom door closed I heard her shout through the door that it's a 1 day notice and we're being trespassed and now have 1 day to leave.
I fainted at that and had to ride in an ambulance to the emergency room where I spent the next 6 hours getting CT scans and bloodwork.
Oliver requires emergency back surgery for his injury, a ruptured disc and bone calcification, which is now on hold because we urgently need to leave this house. He needs a safe and clean place to recover.
Neither of us can lift, and have possessions needing to be packed and moved plus neither of us can drive because we are both taking gabapentin which means we have extra costs to move our belongings and car to our new location.
We have deposits to pay for and since we got here our credit has plummeted because we already paid them $1000 at least once while we were willing to help out and our workers comp benefits aren't coming through due to "modified duties". They're still saying he can work despite needing urgent surgery for his completely ruptured disks.
Someone on TikTok suggested...well, INSISTED we start a GoFundMe and we determined the best way to do it would be to do two separate gofundmes so that no one would be donating to anything we can't currently promise that we can provide.
We set the goal super low so that anyone with the kindness in their hearts to see our situation and try to help has the power to do at least something about what they're seeing.
Thank you for even reading this and I don't know how to properly ask or what to do here so i just...
Whatever you can provide, we graciously will accept and use it to get out of here...thank you a million times.
Jasper & Oliver + The Pup Kratos.
Update:
Hi,
Oliver here. I've gotten in contact with some social help services, but there are limitations to what they can do. They're going to be doing some heavy lifting on our behalf but there are still out-of-pocket expenses and our pockets are dustier than an attic space.
Those expenses are the application fees, fees to expedite vital records and registering our dog in the county.
If there is anything you can donate we would be so grateful that it honestly cant be quantified into words... We are at a point where all we can do is wait and rely on the kindness of others.
Thank you
Oliver
Update 12/22/24
We are Bringing Kratos to a vet first thing tomorrow to get his wound properly closed! All proceeds are going toward Kratos's Vet bills and Application Fees so we can get out of here!
I'll post an update with the Vet's quotes tomorrow, and Application Fees in the area are $50 per application for each place.
At this point in time we have put up a camera to watch our things and keep an eye on Kratos and informed all inhabitants of its presence.
The subscription to record consistently is going to cost about $25 per month so i'm trying to test it to see with my SD card works but its only capturing clips when motion is detected as opposed to continuing to record after.
I'll keep updated on this, but if I have to just spend the $25 to protect my baby I will.
So far we have Raised $360 which is AMAZING I can't believe all of the love support and help you have all given us during this difficult time in our lives <3
You have each been such a rock to us I cant express enough how grateful to you I am !
