My name is Nma, and I’m raising funds for my baby cousin, Olive Chinonso. She is a bright, curious two-year-old whose world has been wrapped in silence and painful discomfort.
After over a year of frantic worry, tests, and hospital visits and stays, Olive has been diagnosed with severe to profound hearing loss in both ears. Doctors believe this may be linked to jaundice she suffered as a newborn, which, though treated at home, likely affected her hearing before anyone could have known.
Now, Olive urgently needs bilateral cochlear implants. They are her only chance to hear, speak, and connect fully with others. Without it, she risks being shut out from the sounds and words that shape early childhood and learning. This is critical for her to lead a life that is as normal and productive as possible in Nigeria - a society where a permanent disability such as this is often a life sentence to discrimination, vulnerability, marginalization, and pain.
The total cost for the implants, surgery, and post-surgery therapy is ₦36 million (about $25,000 USD) - far beyond what her father, a small-scale electronics businessman in Okigwe, Nigeria, can afford. He has already spent millions of naira over the past year seeking answers and treatment, but this next step is simply beyond reach.
I’m creating this campaign to give Olive that chance; the chance to hear her mother’s voice, to laugh at her own giggles, and most importantly, to grow, thrive, and contribute her fullest potential to her world. Every donation, no matter the size, brings her closer to the sound of hope itself.
Please pray for us, give, and share this fundraiser with others. Together, we can help give Olive back her hearing and the vibrant life she deserves.
Ultimate Goal: $20,000 (₦36 million)
The Purpose: Bilateral cochlear implants for Olive Chinonso
Thank you and God bless you!
