This sweet and loyal companion has been an integral part of our lives for 6 years now, but she is currently facing an excruciating battle with severe hip dysplasia. We have explored all options, and the only solution to end her suffering is two total hip replacements. We are determined to give Olive the chance to walk pain-free again, but we need your support to make it happen. About Olive: Olive's journey has been filled with resilience and strength. Despite silently enduring the pain for years, she always managed to greet us with a wagging tail and a heart full of love, as well as chase a ball like no other. However, her condition has worsened to the point where she cannot bear weight on her back left hip. Our trusted veterinarian surgeon, after consulting with several colleagues, has confirmed that Olive's case is one of the most severe they have ever seen, rating a 9 out of 10 on the severity scale. The Urgency of Surgery: The vet believes Olive has been dealing with this debilitating condition her entire life. Now, we find ourselves at a critical juncture where surgery is her only chance at a pain-free future. If we can't pursue some type of surgery option soon we have been told by the vet surgeon that it would be inhumane to force Olive to continue living, and it would be in her best interest to be euthanized. Joint supplements and alternative treatments have proven ineffective, leaving us with no choice but to pursue total hip replacements. The Importance of Your Support: Unfortunately, the cost of Olive's surgeries is astronomical, far beyond what we can manage on our own. The Alternative Option: We want to be transparent about the alternatives. The surgeon has mentioned a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) as a second option. While it is not the preferred approach, it offers some relief by removing the affected bone and allowing Olive's body to form a "false joint" over time through scar tissue. However, we firmly believe that total hip replacements will provide Olive with a significantly higher quality of life, enabling her to walk and play like a normal dog again.
