Meet Olive— A Brave 6-Year-Old Fighting Alopecia Areata
Sweet, joyful, and full of life, Olive is a 6-year-old who lights up every room she walks into. She loves painting, singing, and playing dress-up. But recently, her young life took a difficult turn.
Olive has been diagnosed with Alopecia Areata, an autoimmune condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks hair follicles, causing hair loss. What began as a few small bald patches quickly progressed to more extensive hair loss. For a child so young, the emotional toll for her and Raymond and I has been heartbreaking. This is a very complicated condition as the factors that contribute to symptoms are many and they are different from person to person. It’s a very individualistic disorder and no two cases are the same. We are fighting to find the root of the cause and not just accept the hair loss. She is too young for a lot of recommend hair growth prescriptions that can be prescribed by the dermatologist. Olive’s pediatric dermatologist didn’t recommend any of the medications because of side effects of unwanted hair growth in places she shouldn’t have hair.
We want to prevent reoccurring cycles of hair loss to we have found a functional doctor who can do tests for her gut health, hormones etc. These visits, tests and treatment are not covered by insurance.

Why We Need Your Help
We found a Doctor who is currently working to find the right treatments for Olive, including special tests, blood work, and custom therapies that are not covered by insurance. These treatments can help stimulate regrowth, manage immune responses, and improve her overall quality of life.
We are also exploring holistic approaches to help manage her condition — but each visit, test, and consultation comes at a price.
As a family with limited means, we’re doing everything we can — but we need your help.
