hi everyone, thank you from the bottom of our heart for visiting this page to learn more about our favourite Oli, who needs a little help and support. we're Matthew and Laura, Oli's non-furry parents. for those who don't know him, Oli is the sweetest Australian Shepard to roam the earth. He is loving, kind, accepting, really funny and quirky, wiggles his body A LOT, and makes so many people feel like they are the centre of his universe. he is so special and is our favourite part about every single day. he has helped us through our most challenging moments, and now oli needs a little help too.
on July 8 after coming home from work I saw oli not looking like himself. within 30 minutes we were at the vet, and Gilmour vet NDG found that oli had a bleeding tumour on his spleen (an organ in your belly). oli had a lot of blood in his belly and needed emergency surgery to survive. oli and I rushed to Lachine DMV, where he underwent an emergency surgery on July 8 which saved his life. the surgical team removed 2.5L of blood from his belly, removed his spleen with the entire mass, and removed a lesion found on his liver. oli is recovering as expected, and we are so grateful that Gilmour vet NDG did an ultrasound and found the mass, and that DMV Lachine's surgeons took such good care of him last night and continue to do so.
for everyone who knows oli, you know how special he is. oli has brought so much love to the world, of course to Matthew and I every single day, but also to our friends, our families, fellow travellers, and some patients when he has come to the hospital to share his love for life and his beautiful spirit. oli has changed our lives and given us love, companionship, support, presence, and now oli needs a bit of extra love and support.
oli has been a healthy pup and we unfortunately do not have pet insurance, which has made oli's emergency $10,000 surgery a financial challenge. we didn't think twice about it because we would do anything for oli, and the world is a brighter, kinder, more loving place with oli in it. we don't know yet if the tumour is cancerous or benign, we are just taking things one step at a time. we are hopeful he will be back home in a few short days, healing and getting back to his favourite things (treats, wiggles, walks, frisbee, toys). we would be eternally grateful for any support you might be able to offer, to support oli living a long, happy, healthy life.
