Help Olga walk again

Let's help my mom Olga Delgado walk again. If you have had the chance to meet my mom, you may know the ups and down of her medical history. If not, I will introduce you to a real Warrior.

In 2008 my mom was diagnosed with Uterine Cancer. After, 2 years of what it felt like an endless treatment (42 Radiotherapy, 10 Chemotherapy, and 4 Brachytherapy sessions) She BEAT the Cancer. She was Cancer free!!! And went we thought all the struggle and battle was over it was not. The treatment for the cancer was very aggressive and left her with a lot of adverse effects. In 2010 she was diagnosed with avascular necrosis of both femoral heads, basically there was a disruption of the blood supply to the bone.

 My mom went under surgery in 2011 to try to solve the issue, but it was unsuccessful and between 2012 and 2013 she had to have both of the femoral head replaced. These procedures were very painful and challenging, but my mom was not going to stop fighting. After battling cancer this was just a hiccup in her path. In 2014 she had to have another surgery because of a hemorrhage in her stomach the doctors had to remove a part of her intestine. Just as she was recovering from all these health issues in 2015 her husband passed away. A heart attack took the love of her life away.

You would think that after been flooded with bad news and trauma my mom would just give up, but she did not. Despite all these my mom never stopped smiling I never saw my mom feel defeated. Every day she would wake up to keep fighting back. I am convinced my mom is made out of steel. She is my little sister and I hero. She is an example of perseverance and resilience.  

My mom decided to take her life back and she start training and swimming. She would participate in any marathon, walkathon, hike, and a lot of swimming competitions. My mom is a superwoman, and it is proof to anyone that you can do it. You can survive cancer, surgeries, getting your femoral heads replaced, and even losing your significant other. 

However, 2020 arrived. The pandemic hit and my mom had to stopped working, training, and swimming. Because of this my mom developed kidney stones. Like before she had to have surgery to get a double J stent placed. Unfortunately, a simple procedure caused her more complications. The positioning of her during surgery made her right femoral prosthesis to be dislodged. My mom cannot walk now by herself without support. This complication has my mom in severe pain and stopping her from doing all the things she loves.

My mom wants to be a full Warrior again but now she needs extra help. The surgery she needs “Replacement of femoral head prosthesis” cost around $21,000 USD. My mom is a school teacher, and this is way out of our hands to accomplish by ourselves. That is why we are asking for your support. Please let's help my mom Olga walk again. Ayudemos a mi mama Olga a caminar de nuevo. Si haz tenido la oprtunidad de conocer a mi mama, tal vez sabes los altos y bajos de su historia medica. Si no, te voy a presentar a una verdadera guerrera.

En 2008 mi mama fue diagnosticada con Cancer de Utero. Después de dos años de lo que parecía un tratamiento interminable (42 Radioterapias, 10 Quimioterapias y 4 Braquiterapias) Ella VENCIO al Cancer. Ella estaba libre de Cancer!!! Cuando pensamos que las dificultades y batallas habían acabado, entendimos que ese no era el caso. El tratamiento para el cancer fue bastante agresivo y ocasionando efectos secundarios. En 2010 ella fue diagnosticada con Necrosis Avascular bilateral en la cabeza de fémures, básicamente el hueso que une sus piernas a las caderas estaba muriendo.

Mi mamá fue sometida a una cirugía en el 2011 para intentar solucionar este problema, pero no tuvo éxito y entre los años 2012 y 2013 tuvo que remplazar ambas cabezas del fémur por prótesis. Este procedimiento fue bastante doloroso y complejo, pero mi mamá no estaba lista para dejar de luchar. Luego de batallar contra el Cáncer esto no era nada. En 2014 tuvo que atravesar otra cirugía debido a una gastritis hemorrágica. El Dr tuvo que remover parte de su intestino grueso. Esta operacion fue bastante invasiva y la recuperacion lenta. Justo cuando comenzaba a volver a su rutina normal y a su trabajo, en 2015 su esposo falleció a causa de un ataque al corazón.

Podrías pensar que luego de tantas malas noticia y traumas mi mama se rendiría, pero no fue el caso. Sin importar todo lo que ha pasado mi mamá no deja de sonreír, jamas la vi derrotada. Cada día que pasa es una oportunidad mas para seguir batallando. Mi mama esta hecha de acero. Mi mama siempre ha sido mi motivo de admiracion y enteresa. Mi hermana y yo siempre hemos estado orgullosas de su capacidad de seguir adelante y dar lo mejor de si. 

Mi mamá decidió volver a vivir. Comezó a entrenar y  a nadar, participando en cada maratón, caminata y competencias de natación que consieguiera en su camino. Ella es una súper mujer, y nos ha probado que todo se puede lograr, incluso durante las peores adversidades.  

Sin embargo, 2020 llegó. La pandemia afectó a mi mamá como a muchos. Tuvo que  para de trabajar, entrenar y nadar. Esto ocasionó que mi mamá desarrollara piedras en los riñones. Y de nuevo como muchas otras veces tuvo que someterse a una cirugía. Le colocaron un catéter doble J del riñón a la vejiga. Desafortunadamente, un procedimiento sencillo desarrollo más complicaciones. Debio a la posición que su cuerpo estuvo durante la cirugía se produjo un desplazamiento de una la prótesis de la cadera. 

Actualmente, mi mamá no puede caminar por ella misma y los intensos dolores la obligan al uso diario de analgésicos. Esto la ha forzado a dejar de hacer todo lo que disfruta.  

Mi mamá quiere volver a ser una gran guerrera, pero esta vez necesita extra ayuda. La cirugía que necesita para el “Reemplazo de prótesis de Cadera” se estima en un costo de alrededor de $21,000 USD. Mi mamá trabaja en un colegio y lamentablemente se sale de sus manos los gastos de este procedimiento. Esta es nuestra forma de pedir ayuda. Por favor, ayudemos a mi mamá Olga a caminar de nuevo.
