Hi everyone,

My name is Sylvia, and I’m fundraising to support my mum, Olga Lucia de la Espriella, after a serious fall that has turned our lives upside down in a moment.

We were out on a walk with my mum and my daughter Chloe at a well-known nature area on the Central Coast. We were following the walking track when Mum unexpectedly slipped and fell approximately two metres. It happened very quickly and we immediately called Triple Zero. An incredible team of paramedics and Fire & Rescue arrived, helped stabilise her and safely assisted with her evacuation. 

Mum was then transported to Gosford Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.

Mum has two broken ribs and three fractured spinal discs (L2–L4). Seeing her in pain has been heartbreaking, and right now our focus is helping her stabilise and recover with the right medical care and rehabilitation.

Although Mum has travel insurance, we’re still waiting to understand what will actually be covered, and the out-of-pocket costs are already adding up. Mum was meant to fly home on 1st February, but doctors have told us she cannot manage a long flight in her current condition. We may need to change flights, extend accommodation, and apply for a Visitor visa extension so she can remain in Australia long enough to recover and travel safely.

We’re raising $20,000 to help cover:

• Hospital care, scans and treatment

• Medication and follow-up appointments

• Rehabilitation/physiotherapy

• Rescue/ambulance-related costs (as applicable)

• Flight changes and extra accommodation (if medically required)

• Visitor visa extension costs

• Transport and support needs while she recovers

• Any gaps while insurance is being assessed

I also want to share something personal in two weeks, I’m due to undergo my third cancer-related operation in the past two years, and this sudden emergency has placed an extra emotional and financial strain on our family.
