& open the “Old Fashion Diner"
A Legacy in Danger
For almost 90 years, the Old Fashion Diner has been a beloved staple of the El Dorado community. But now, this iconic eatery faces an uncertain future. Due to highway expansion plans, the building that has housed the Old Fashion for decades is set to be destroyed.
An Enduring Tradition
Since its opening in 1934, the Old Fashion has been a cherished gathering place for generations of El Dorado residents. With its classic take-out menu, great food and ice cream and friendly service, it's no wonder that so many people have made the Old Fashion a regular stop on their daily routines. For nearly nine decades, this dairy bar has been an enduring symbol of the town's past and present.
A Loyal Longtime Employee Steps Up
When longtime owner Betty Schaub learned that the restaurant could no longer continue at the current location she decided it was time to retire. Her niece and employee Susan Blanchard wants to step up and take the reins. Ever since Susan was a little girl she dreamed of one day owning the old fashion and it would be wonderful to see her dreams come true. If you have eaten at the Old Fashion chances are it was her smiling face that served you. She’s a true part of the heart and soul that makes Betty’s old fashion what it is today.
The Challenge Ahead
Relocating a business is never easy, especially one with as much history and tradition as the Old Fashion. But Susan is determined to make it happen . With the support of the community and generous donors she will be able relocate and reopen the Old Fashion serving us the same great food just under new ownership. But in order to make this work we need to raise $200,000.
We all know that the Old Fashion never failed to give a free meal to people in need so let’s help Susan so she can continue to spread that love throughout our community. If everyone in El Dorado could give the cost of a burger and fries ($5-$15), or whatever amount you can afford, we could easily meet our goal. Every donation counts and will make a difference in preserving this piece of local history.
Please help us to keep this important part of El Dorado's heritage alive for generations to come.
