My Ugandan Host Family needs help!

I’m writing on behalf of my Ugandan host family who supported me during Peace Corps and is now in need. I go into detail below, so feel free to read on or skip if this isn’t for you - no pressure on my end!

In Uganda, I lived for a month with a family (pictured below) as an introduction to the culture, and then we visited regularly with each other during my two-year stint there. They were regarded as a very respected family, the father runs a private school for nursery and elementary aged children. I remember before the start of the school year they gathered their 3 daughters, 1 son and extra relatives they were housing, to pray for their courage and integrity through the school year - that stuck with me!

My host sister, Gladys (the could-be supermodel with her arm around my actual Mother), reached out to let me know that pre-Covid they took out a loan from a bank to expand the school, using the school as collateral, and were paying it back successfully until Covid struck. Since March of 2020 schools across Uganda are shut down and are not returning until January 2022 (I confirmed this with a quick Google - a tragedy in its own right!). They say that the bank gave them an ultimate to pay 6k euros or they will seize the school and their personal home, as a family they’ve gathered 1.2k euros so far. When I think back, this family hasn’t asked me for a single penny over the last 7 years that I have known them, and based on my knowledge of them it seems they are in need.

Austin and I will be sending them a financial amount, and I’m writing to see if this might be a possibility for you? Again, I hope you don’t feel pressure , especially with so many people in need at the moment. They’ve been generous and kind neighbors to me in the past, and I am very grateful that they are a part of my life. Thank you for reading and considering.
