Hurricane Melissa, one of the most powerful storms ever to strike Jamaica, has left devastation in its wake. Among those hardest hit is the family of Octavious (OJ) Stoddart, who many in our community know from his warm smile at the local farmers markets and his dedication at Little River Farm. OJ’s mother and relatives have lost their family home—roofs torn away, property ravaged, and basic necessities like power, fresh water, and food now out of reach. Their home is uninhabitable, and they are struggling to access the materials and labor needed to stabilize and protect what remains until long-term repairs can be made.

Though this disaster happened far from Fairfield, its impact is deeply felt here. OJ has made Fairfield his adopted home, and now a tragedy that seems distant has touched one of our own. This crisis has been deeply stressful and emotional for OJ, who is desperate to help his family from afar. As friends and neighbors, we have seen the incredible impact our community can have when we come together in times of need. In the spirit of the season, we are reaching out to ask for your support.
