Help offset Rachel's medical and care expenses

Hi friends and family -

 

As you may or may not have heard, our sweet friend Rachel Mikol was recently diagnosed with invasive ductal breast cancer. She will be going through chemo, surgery and radiation over the next 6-8 months at the Dubin breast center at Mt Sinai for treatment. Rachel has a great team of doctors and they were very encouraging that as of now, the cancer is curable, and PET scans have shown that there are no other signs of cancer in her body. She has a long road of treatment ahead and she shouldn't have to be this strong, but we're confident she will be and she'll get through this.

 

As you know, the expenses associated with care for cancer can be very high and cause a lot of stress - something that someone already dealing with an overwhelming diagnosis shouldn't have to deal with. We would like to alleviate some of these pressures by providing Rachel with a fund that she can use to offset the costs of rides to and from the hospital, and with any additional costs that may come up.

Initially, we will be withdrawing and using the money to get Rachel an uber/lyft gift card, enough to cover all rides to and from the hospital, a trip she'll have to make almost 60 times over the course of treatment. Any money raised beyond that will be given directly to Rachel to use for additional costs that come up.

First - thank you all SO much for your generosity - we are truly overwhelmed with how you have shown up to support Rachel. 

We are three of Rachel's best friends from throughout her life (two from grade school, one from college)
We started this fund initially to help with the cost of rides to the hospital. It quickly spread, indicating how loved Rachel is. Rachel will be using the additional funds for many reasons - to help with the cost of fertility treatments prior to chemo, to help with food, rent and other costs of care so she can reduce work hours during treatment if she isn't feeling well, and with the medical bills that will come as a result of having so many scans/tests/treatments over the next 8 months. The money will be withdrawn into a bank account set up specifically for this fund, that Rachel has access to. In order to reduce stress for Rachel, she has a specific credit card that will be paid off using this account so she can easily use the money for any expenses that come up.
