Help offset Myles Medical Bills for College
Hello Community! My name is Charlene and I am raising funds for my only child Myles.
Myles had been a healthy child for most all of his life until October 2020. He
began complaining of chest pains and aching bones. He received a diagnosis of Pleuritis, blood was drawn for testing and he was referred to follow up with a Rheumatologist. After several follow up appointments that revealed inflammation markers remained elevated, he was advised additional testing would be done in January2021 if the status had not changed. In the interim, his Grandmother passed on November 11th, his father who was the victim of a hit and run accident in September2020 was in jeopardy of a leg amputation and he himself developed a lump on his testicle and numbness to his lower leg. January 4th he was seen for the numbness to his lower leg and follow up for the lump on his testicle. Blood was drawn. January 5th the call was received advising he was found to have ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). I was asked to bring him to the hospital with a bag packed ASAP because an Oncologist was waiting to meet with us. Since then he has received (2) Bone Marrow extractions, (10) Lumbar taps, (1) blood transfusion, weekly chemotherapy treatments and emergency room intervention for severe headaches, port related difficulties, elevated temperature and heart rate. To have just turned 17 December 8th 2020, his ability to face these challenges with grace, dignity and resiliency has just been remarkable. Even when he is actively experiencing many of the negative side effects, he remains polite to all who assist him. While he has always performed well academically (mostly A, B & occasional C), he has been unable to partake in online schooling with any regularity since this all began due to the toll the side effects have had on him. These include nausea, vomiting, severe headaches, overall body and back pain, elevated body temperature, infection, low platelets causing a need for blood transfusions, changes in appetite, taste, touch and mobility.
He obtained his working papers in October 2020 and was looking forward to gaining a greater level of independence through obtaining employment but is now unable to pursue this. He is also set to graduate in June 2022 from the Creative and Performing Arts High School with a focus in Musical Theater.
I had been making efforts to send him on a trip “abroad” with his classmates to AFRICA for his Senior trip and prepare to send him off to COLLEGE. However, the added expenses for his care alone has made this seem impossible. He will receive aggressive treatment for (9) months and maintenance for a minimum period of (1 & 1/2) years. Some of the medications has increased his appetite significantly so food consumption and costs have increased likewise. Since he is seen at a minimum of twice per week, parking fees are incurred at the same rate. Then their are increased costs for medications not covered, gas and other emergency related costs as they arise.
We are therefore seeking funding to offset medical costs ($10k for the two year period of treatment) and to allow him to attend his Senior trip ($15 to cover cost of travel) and preparation for COLLEGE. Lastly, ($2k) to cover fees associated with this fund raising event.
We realize times are difficult for many and “Thank You” in advance for any and all contributions made to help us on this journey.
