Hello! My name is Marija and I am fundraising for my cat Odin who has acute kidney failure and needs help with the veterinary bills.
Let me tell you about Odin.
My partner Josh and I meet Odin as a stray kitty in cold January 2025, it was very cold, snowy, and there was Odin meowing his heart out like he was asking for help. He was quite feral and wouldn't let us approach him but he did accept treats and food - from a distance. We started leaving him food and water in a shed where We made him little warm bed. The temperatures continued to plummet and we saw the water we left him freeze over one morning, fearing for Odin's wellbeing we decided to catch him and adopt him.
Since We already have 3 cats, once We caught Odin and isolated him until we could take him to the veterinarian to make sure he was in good health and no risk to our indoor cats. At the vets, We checked that Odin doesn't have a chip, he wasn't neutered, and his blood test came out fine. We slowly introduced Odin to our other cats and they accepted each other, but Odin was still afraid of us. So we just spent some time every day near him, talking to him, trying to pet him from time to time but not invading his space.
Two months later, He surprised us one night by jumping on our bed and sleeping with us, it was his bed now. Odin was learning from our other kitties how to play with toys, how to gently take treats, and in no time he was the most cuddly cat.
Everything was going great and seemed fine with Odin until Monday 23rd of June when Odin vomited in the morning, I thought he may have eaten too fast or because it was very humid and hot that was the reason, but after coming back from work, we saw few more vomit puddles. We decided to see how Odin feels in the morning to take him to the veterinarian.
Next morning, Tuesday 24th Odin didn't look good, so we rushed him to the veterinarian, They told us he must stay with them and They will do a blood and urine test, and start IV treatment as he was severely dehydrated. Later that day we received a call saying that Odin is Anaemic and has Acute Kidney Failure, We were told to come and pick him up before the surgery closes, but to come back next morning for more IV treatment. Odin was refusing to eat both days, he was very lethargic, and barely responsive. After Wednesday treatment the veterinarian advised us to take 1 day break from taking Odin to the surgery and see how it goes. We syringe fed Odin during the night and day with the rehydration mixture but we still felt like he would benefit from more treatment as his condition didn't seem to get much better.
On Thursday 26th we were back at the veterinarian where they gave Odin subcutaneous fluids and told us to come the next day.
On Friday 27th we were back to the veterinarian, where they said they see slight improvement in Odin so they gave us 3 days worth of tablets called 'Mirtazapine' as an appetite stimulant, 'Pronefra' to help bind phosphates and 'Aqupharm' saline drip to help with Odin's hydration. In addition to that, Odin has ProPlan Hydra care (hydration supplement) and his special Renal Function food.
Unfortunately, because of the financial situation, Odin has not been insured yet and none of the veterinarian bills will be covered. We are asking if You would kindly help us with them? Any donation is greatly appreciated! If you are unable to donate, sharing Odin's appeal would mean a lot too.
Thank you!
