My name is Odile Ininahazwe, a 32-year-old mother from Burundi.
I live in Bujumbura with my husband and our two beautiful young children.
I work as an accountant at the Ruziba District Hospital, where I help manage finances to support healthcare in our community.
Life has been challenging but full of joy—until recently, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in my left breast.
It started with a suspicious nodule in my left breast, classified as BIRADS 5, which led to a biopsy at Tanganyika Hospital.
The results confirmed infiltrating breast carcinoma, a non-specific type at SBR grade II (3+3+1), with a luminal B-HER2 positive phenotype.
This means the cancer is aggressive but treatable with the right care. My doctors have recommended immediate treatment to give me the best chance of recovery.
The treatment plan includes:
• Pre-chemotherapy assessments: Heart checks (ECG and echocardiogram) to ensure I'm ready for chemo.
• Chemotherapy: 8 sessions, plus injections over 19 days, hospitalization for 27 days, and ongoing monitoring.
• Surgery: To remove the tumour, with 8 days of hospitalization and post-op care.
• Possible radiotherapy: I may need referral to a specialist in Kenya, Rwanda, or Uganda for this post surgery but costs are not yet included in the total.
The total estimated cost for chemotherapy and surgery is 75,850,000 Burundian francs, which is about $38,635 AUS.
As a public sector employee in Burundi, I don't have the resources to cover these expenses on my own. My family relies on me, and I want to be there to watch my children grow up. Your support will help me access this life-saving treatment and ease the financial burden on my loved ones.
My uncle Cyriaque Nkeraguhiga, family and friends from Brisbane, Australia are helping me.
Every donation, no matter the size, brings me closer to beating this disease.
Even If you can't donate, please share my story with your network.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and generosity.
With gratitude, Odile Ininahazwe Bujumbura, Burundi
