Help bring Odette home to her family. My neighbor's dog was shot in our small Maine town. After major surgery, Odette is trying her hardest to heal and be able to go home to her family. The family had to make a quick decision to save her life and any contribution to help with the massive $20k+ financial burden suddenly placed on this family would be greatly appreciated.

This past Thursday our dog, Odette, wandered off in our neighborhood. We searched for 3 hours and knew something was wrong when she didn’t come back when called. We called neighbors and even local Police. But when we found her someone had shot our dog.

Odette could barely walk. A single bullet through her hip ripped multiple holes in her intestine (16 inches had to be removed). Emergency surgery is crazy $$. Three days later she’s still in critical care and we hope she will make it home.

We have many great neighbors here in Eliot, people who look out for each other. There’s a lot of open space without boundaries, and it’s very common to have other pets wandering. We usually call each other or help walk a dog back home. This sense of community has always made our part of Eliot feel like a piece of paradise.



Sadly it doesn’t feel that way any more.



We don’t understand why someone would shoot a defenseless animal. There are so many better options if you see an animal in your yard, digging through your compost or eating your birdseed. Call a neighbor. Call the animal control officer.



But it happens here in Eliot… right in our neighborhood.

Luckily neighbors saw her and called us. Otherwise Odette wouldn’t have made it home.
