Hi, my name is Octavio. I am 27 years old. I am an immigrant from Montevideo, Uruguay, trying to open a coffee shop. Moved to New York because this is the land of opportunity. A city that believes in the currency of perseverance.
My sister and I decided last year to open a coffee shop. We have daydreamt of being business partners since we were young. We had no idea we would wind up in New York City, let alone living together and having our dream at arm’s length. A great few years have been filled with meaningful growth, hardships and self-discovery.
We want to open MCM Coffee because we have always believed in the beauty of culture and the humanity that reflects it. We have secured a location in the heart of downtown Manhattan, Wall Street, and cannot wait to begin serving this community.
However, we need your help. We have unfortunately run into some unforeseen circumstances that may result in MCM Coffee never seeing the light of day. Unfortunately, we were scammed by our original architect. Our landlord's building had prior violations that led to DOB taking five months to process our permits. A process that should be highly expeditious. When the project finally started, our contractor would send only one worker twice a week (if we were lucky) who was 67 years old. He promised to finish the job in two months. Took five months and abandoned it, undone. He left it because he wanted more money than what was agreed upon. We paid out-of-pocket since banks rejected us. He did not consider our project a priority and was compensated as if it were. We are almost done, but we need a bit more money and ask for your assistance. We want this dream to come true, not just for us but for the downtown Manhattan community.
We have decided to go in a new direction and are building a lot of the coffee shop ourselves, with friends and some professional assistance when we can afford it. However, due to the multiple scammers, we have encountered financial struggles. The money has gone to services that have not been provided. I am asking for donations of any amount to help us cross this finish line. I have endless gratitude for you :)
