Help OB Recover from Unlawful Detention

On October 10, 2025, Obdulio Reyes—affectionately known as OB—faced a nightmare that would change his family’s life. OB, a law-abiding and devoted father of three, received a letter from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) regarding his application for a Permanent Residence card. Despite knowing the risks, OB complied with the request, trusting in the legal process he had followed for nine years. Instead of returning home, OB was unlawfully detained, stripped of his wallet, work permit, and phone, and transported to a detention center. He was not told why he was being arrested, given a timeline for release, or allowed to post bond. It would be three excruciating months before he saw his family again.

OB’s only exposure to the legal system has been his pursuit of legal status—he has never been arrested or even received a ticket. His faith in the justice system was shaken, but his faith in God and his community remained strong. While incarcerated, OB continued to help others, leading Bible studies and sharing his limited commissary funds so fellow detainees could call their families. Now home, he wears an ankle monitor but continues to volunteer at his church and work as an Irrigation Technician and Landscape Foreman, striving to rebuild his life.

The impact on OB’s family has been both emotionally and financially devastating. His eldest daughter had to leave college to support the family and coordinate with OB’s attorney. His younger daughters, both honor students, have struggled emotionally and academically, now attending therapy to cope with the trauma. The family has incurred overwhelming legal debt and faces ongoing expenses for future hearings and fines. The loss of OB’s income during his detention forced the family into debt, and the financial strain continues as they work to recover. The fight for OB’s immigration status is not over—there are still months of hearings and trial dates ahead, adding to the uncertainty and financial burden. OB and his family need our help to cover legal fees, pay fines, and restore their finances so his daughter can return to college.

Please help OB and his family recover from this injustice. Your support will make a real difference in their lives and help them move forward with hope.
