Help Support Oakwood University Students Attending the NSBE Convention Next Week:
Calling all Oakwood University STEM Alumni! For over 35 years, Oakwood University (OU) math, engineering, and computer science students have attended this convention, securing internships, fellowships, job offers, and invaluable professional connections. Due to funding constraints, OU is unable to sponsor its students to attend the 50th National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Convention in Chicago, IL from March 6 to 9, 2025.
With his trip to the NSBE convention secured, Brenden Henley, a junior majoring in Biomedical Engineering and founder of OU Create, a student-led Innovation Lab housed in the OU Biology Department, decided to help his school mates, who had not secured funding, get to NSBE by organizing a fund-raising drive.
With funding from a Versacare foundation grant, OU Create, he received to enhance the education of his fellow students, Brenden is providing assistance to cover half of the NSBE registration fees. He has also partnered with Joy Broadcasting Network and Oakwood University’s Central Florida Alumni to raise the remaining funds needed. We need to raise $6,000 to cover travel and lodging expenses for Oakwood students to attend NSBE.
