In November of 2022, 9-year-old Oaklynn Peterson was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. Since that time, Oaklynn has undergone surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and other treatments. Oaklynn was in remission in July of 2023, but by November 2023, her cancer was back. She again fought by doing chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries, and other treatments. In November of 2024, it was determined that Oaklynn would never be cancer-free, and the decision was made to do more chemotherapy to try and keep the cancer at bay. Unfortunately, this was not working, and it was making Oaklynn very sick. Oaklynn with the support of her family made the very difficult decision to stop treatment so she can spend quality time at home with her parents, brothers, other family, and friends. Oaklynn is receiving concurrent care with her mom as her primary caregiver. This has been a very long journey for Oaklynn and her family, and they have already received so much love and support from their family, friends, and community, but unfortunately, they are still struggling financially. Oaklynn's mom, Carah, has been out of work for most of the last two years as she has been the primary support for Oaklynn's care with unpredictable hospital stays and a lot of appointments for treatments. Carah's role in Oaklynn's care now requires her to be at home with Oaklynn a majority of the time so she can provide her with the medical care she is receiving. At this stage in Oaklynn's care, she is on oxygen around 85% of the time, and Carah works to manage her pain and keep her as comfortable as possible. Her recent scans show that her cancer is continuing to grow and spread. The family will not ask for help, but they need it. At this time, focusing on Oaklynn is where their priority is and where it needs to be, not on how they will make ends meet. Any help is greatly appreciated!
