Hello, my name is Rachel and I am fundraising for my 10-year-old son, Oakley.
Oakley came into the world fighting. Born six weeks early and weighing only 3lb 1oz, he was diagnosed with a skeletal dysplasia—although doctors have never been able to match his condition to any specific type. His bones did not form as they should, affecting nearly every joint in his body. As a result, Oakley lives with severely reduced mobility, significant fatigue, and daily pain from the effort it takes simply to move.
Despite everything, Oakley is determined, bright, funny, and incredibly strong. He works hard to stay active and independent, but lately, that’s become much harder.

What Happened
In June 2022, Oakley underwent a hip operation at a world-renowned children’s hospital in London. We are unable to share names due to an ongoing legal process, but concerns about this surgeon have been widely reported in the news since September last year.
Since that operation, Oakley’s mobility has declined drastically. The hospital has acknowledged that Oakley came to harm, but unfortunately, that doesn’t undo the impact on his daily life or help him regain the independence he has lost.

Why We Need Your Help
Oakley is not considered a full-time wheelchair user, which means he does not qualify for motorised wheelchair wheels through the NHS. However, these wheels would make a life-changing difference to him. They would allow him to:
Move without exhausting himself
Reduce his daily pain
Stay active with friends
Maintain independence at school and in the community
Enjoy childhood without constantly battling his body
Motorised wheels are expensive, and without NHS support, we are left to try and fund them ourselves.
---
Our Goal
We are hoping to raise £5,000 to purchase the motorised wheels Oakley urgently needs. This includes:
The motorised wheel system
Fitting and adjustments
Any assessments or accessories required for safe use
Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a genuine difference. Even sharing this fundraiser helps more than you know.

Thank You
Thank you for taking the time to read Oakley’s story. It means the world to us. Oakley deserves the chance to stay active, independent, and confident — and with your help, that can still be possible.
With love and gratitude,
Rachel
