I never thought I’d be in a position to create something like this, but the last couple of weeks with our sweet Oakley have been incredibly challenging.

What was supposed to be a routine surgery quickly turned into unexpected complications. Oakley initially needed surgery to remove a foreign object that had become lodged in her stomach, which required multiple incision sites in her intestines.

After trying to do everything right and even opting for a more affordable surgical option, her recovery didn’t go as planned.

She developed swelling, fluid buildup, and infection near her incision, which led to multiple vet visits, second opinions, and additional procedures. Despite being on antibiotics, the infection hasn’t responded as we hoped. She developed fluid filled pockets that have continued to drain and not properly heal, and we’ve now been told the skin in that area has become compromised.

Because of this, Oakley now requires another surgery to remove the affected tissue and properly treat the infection.

At this point, we’ve already spent over $5,000 trying to get her back to normal, and with this next surgery scheduled, we’re expecting to be over $8,000 total.

More than anything, it’s been heartbreaking watching her go through this and not being able to fix it right away. She’s the happiest, most loving dog, and we’re doing everything we can to make sure she gets the care she needs to fully recover.
