UPDATED STORY: Oak is a 23-year-old who now is living in shared housing because of generous people like you! They moved to Kalamazoo in March of 2025 to find support from people who will accept them for who they truly are.

Since then, they had no permanent home. They have slept on a futon and in spare rooms, and even had 3-month summer sublease, paid for by a new friend. Now they have a room in a home in the Vine neighborhood! They are beyond grateful and overjoyed!

Oak was recently denied disability benefits despite having an excellent case, per their attorney. They will be reapplying soon since they will have new diagnoses completed soon, which will add to their case. They have rent money through August, but will be back to being homeless unless their case goes through rapidly.

Here is where you can help: the rent at their place is only $445 per month, so any donation that you can make will go a long way toward keeping them in their home while they await a new disability decision.

They are doing everything they can to help themselves, including multiple therapies and appointments with medical specialties. They are living being a part of a community and learning how to care for a shared home.

Can you help with a contribution toward his monthly rent so that they can stay in their home and continue to build toward a fulfilling life?

Let’s rally together to make a difference for Oak! Thank you for your generosity!
