My students are true New Yorkers. They travel to school independently and most have responsibilities well beyond their young years. They face adversity that many may never see in a lifetime.
They truly are beautiful humans. I teach in an urban community school where all students receive free breakfast and lunch, free dental screenings, free eye appointments and glasses, and much more. For many of them, school is the one structure that is a constant in their chaotic lives. They deserve to learn in an environment that can cater to their diverse learning needs and support them wholeheartedly.
My teaching philosophy is centered in bringing student autonomy and voice to the forefront of the classroom. I want them to feel safe to explore and discover new ideas and learning at all times. Having new classrooms resources will allow students to become creators, presenters and innovators of their own education.
When I am teaching, I want my future change-makers to have the latest instructional materials and resources at their fingertips. Information moves at a fast pace and I want them to have immediate access to that, no matter their background.
They need these new classroom resources to develop their research and presentation skills. My students should not have to deal with the financial burden that is often unfairly placed on them. My students deserve a quality classroom filled with the latest resources to support their discoveries and I hope that you can help me make that a reality.
