WHO I AM:

Hey Beautiful People!

My name is Nubia Monks (some know me as Kim Monks) and I am an actor, playwright and educator. I have just received the Jerome's Playwriting Fellowship at the Playwright's Center and am overjoyed about this stellar opportunity. I get to follow in the footsteps of some amazing humans (August Wilson, Naomi Iizuka, Anna Moench, etc), and I get to take my playwriting and art-making to new heights. I get to deepen my skill as a storyteller, while also using my voice as an agent for change. I am excited to make an impact.

All in all, this opportunity is a dream come true and I can not wait to embark on such a journey. However, I stand in need of financial assistance as I prepare to make my big move. That is where YOU come in!

WHERE YOUR MONEY IS GOING:

I am preparing to move to the Twin Cities (Minneapolis, MN) effective June 22nd, 2021, and I need your help. Moving to another state can be tedious and costly; and with our industry (which is theatre) being dark for the most part, I stand in need of financial assistance to help me get to Minneapolis and maintain living expenses for the first few months whilst I find my groove and obtain a part-time job.

Your generous donations will help to cover:

1. Transportation from California to Minneapolis (by car)

2. The first three months of rent/utilities ($1395.00/Month for rent in Minneapolis PLUS $ 2125.00/month for rent in San Diego) 

3. Monthly expenses (Phone bill, car note, storage, car insurance, etc)

4. Food and Toiletries

5. Furniture

INCENTIVES:

$50-$100: I will read your script within 2-3 business days and will give you feedback (this can also be a gift for a friend if you are not a writer)

$300- $500: A 1 1/2 hr GROUP Acting Workshop with me . Bring in an old self-tape that you feel confident about, and receive feedback from me and fellow artists for future gigs. (this can also be a gift for a friend if you are not an actor)

$550-$1000: A PRIVATE 2 1/2hr Acting Workshop with me. This workshop is designed based on your needs. You will have the opportunity to explore classical or contemporary text, as well as new plays (this can also be a gift for a friend if you are not an actor)
