Help Nova Recover From Emergency Surgery
Donation protected
Hello everyone! Most of you know me as Kilo, or PrismPaws. (Receipts are available in the images -- The complete, itemized, 4-page receipt is available upon request).
On March 1st, my loyal companion of 9 years, Nova, started having a medical emergency. Once rushed to the emergency vet, it was determined that he had a complete urinary blockage. Without emergency treatment, cats with urinary blockages can die within 24-48 hours.
Despite multiple preventative measures, such as a full prescription diet, multiple water fountains, and a low-stress environment, this was Nova's second complete blockage in a year. Due to the severity of the blockage and his medical history, he needed to have an emergency "PU", or Perineal Urethrostomy, surgery.
After spending 4 days at the emergency vet, Nova was ready to come home! However, 20 hours after coming home, he needed another trip to the ER for a few tests due to healing complications, further adding to the total bill. While he is currently home, it is definitely possible that we run into further complications, and he may need additional vet visits during his 3-week healing period. This leaves me with a rather hefty vet bill.
While I'm happy that Nova is now home, I need help paying for his emergency medical care. I am currently a fulltime freelance artist, and I've made my income primarily from merchandise sales for the last year and a half. However, I've been waitlisted or rejected from most conventions this year, and I only have one upcoming convention that is rather small, and it's not for another month. Without merchandise sales, my income from art commissions is barely enough to cover rent. While I am actively hunting for a corporate job, the job market is incredibly tough.
I had to take out a new credit card, max it out, and pay the remaining balance with a different credit card in order to get Nova his life-saving care. I have no way to pay off this bill for the foreseeable future. While I hate asking, I truly need help.
His surgery and 4-day emergency vet stay was $6,047.30. His follow-up vet visit + testing was $227.88. I have spent over $200 on medication, recovery, and cleaning supplies for Nova's 3-week recovery period. This leads to a total of $6,475.18. GFM charges a 3% fee for donations, leaving us with a total goal of $6,700 to cover his medical care + fees.
I want to stress that Nova is completely healthy other than these blockage emergencies. His blood work is clear, and the vet has given him a clean bill of health. He truly means the world to me. He is by my side almost every second of every day. If you know me and have been to my apartment, you likely have met Nova. He is a very special, loving, and well-behaved little man. Despite the exorbitant cost, I had to save him. He has many, many more years of love to give. This surgery will significantly reduce the likelihood of another complete blockage happening in the future. Once he recovers, he will be back to being a happy, healthy, and active house guardian.
Thank you so much for your help. It truly means the world to me, and to Nova.
