My name is Kyle and I am attempting to raise funds for our family dog Nova, aka Nova-Rooski aka Spaz-a-Nator. Nova suffered a horrific accident and what was deemed the worst freak accident the vet had seen all year, resulting in surgery and assumed recurring visits for the foreseeable future.
God blessed us with Nova five months ago and our time together has been nothing shy of rewarding. At only 7 months old, Nova is hands down the smartest dog I have ever met, learning commands like "kennel," "leave it," "Nova here," "Nova sit," and her favorite "Angriff" (German for attack). Nova is always full of energy and no one on this earth has ever gotten as excited to see me more than our rambunctious Nova-Rooski.
Unfortunately, on Monday, April 28, 2025, at around 7:30 pm, my family and I were reminded of the fragility of life and how in an instant what you previously took for granted could quickly be taken away from you. My wife Briannah was occupying Nova with a classic game of fetch. Being half Border Collie, Nova soon got tired of her ball and chose a large stick to refresh their game. The stick lodged itself into the soft ground and Nova ran full speed into the stick, impaling herself down her throat and into her stomach.
Hearing the terrible noise of Nova squealing in pain and my wife subsequently screaming for help, I ran to see what was going on. Nova was convulsing on the ground and it was unclear to me what had exactly happened. Not until Nova rolled onto her back was I able to see the stick protruding from Nova's throat.
I ran to where they were and began to pull on the stick. The stick was so far down Nova's throat that I was pulling Nova with the stick itself. I held Nova with one arm and began to pull the stick. One pull, two, three, four pulls and the stick was still there. Nova managed to squirm from my arms and I dropped her. She began to convulse again and it was at this time that my brother Mark made it outside. Mark was able to secure Nova and with one last pull, the stick broke free.
We instantly began to assess the situation and I was able to get through to an emergency vet service in STL. Mark and I loaded Nova into the truck and took off. We were able to get Nova into Veterinary Specialty Service where they took Nova in and were able to stabilize her within the night.
Nova sustained both esophageal and thoracic puncture wounds and has severe trauma and inflammation in her throat and chest. VSS surgically placed a feeding tube in Nova's stomach where we are to administer both food and medicine for the next four weeks.
At the end of the four weeks, VSS will reassess Nova's situation and will determine how to move forward. Current vet bills total $7,917.08, not counting the PEMF laser treatment that Nova will undergo at South Side Veterinary in Rolla to facilitate healing and reduce inflammation.
It is purely a miracle from God that Nova is still here with us today. We acknowledge the sovereignty and providence of God and are forever grateful for His grace that He showers upon His children. Our gratitude extends to our church family from Mosaic Baptist in Rolla, along with both family and friends that continue to support us with prayers and words of encouragement.
We ask that anyone feeling compelled or touched to bless us with a donation would do so knowing that any proceeds collected will go directly to funding Nova's recovery.
Thank you in advance and may God bless you.
Luke 6:38 "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
