Nova is my sweet 3-year-old Bengal cat. Though shy and timid, she’s endlessly curious and loves nothing more than curling up in a new spot to nap. I adopted her when she was just a tiny kitten, and since then she’s been my precious companion — bringing light and comfort during difficult times.
On the night of September 1, Nova escaped from my parents’ house under unknown circumstances. After missing for two terrifying days, a kind stranger found her outside and brought her to animal control, where my family and I were able to reunite with her. At first, we thought she was okay, but it quickly became clear that something was seriously wrong.
She soon began showing abnormal behavior, struggling to eat, drink, and use her litter box. On September 5, we took her to the vet, where we discovered she had lost her sense of sight and smell. Further diagnostics revealed possible trauma to her spine and head, and she was immediately transferred to the C.A.R.E. Centre Animal Hospital for intensive monitoring. During her stay, Nova suffered several seizures and underwent a CT scan to assess the damage.
Thankfully, Nova did not require surgery, and with the help of medication and rest, her condition stabilized. She even regained her sense of smell, which was a huge step forward. She was discharged from the hospital on September 9. However, her recovery is far from over.
The CT scan also revealed that Nova has a portosystemic shunt, a condition that affects how blood flows through her liver. This diagnosis has major implications for both her short-term treatment and her long-term health. Since returning home, she is still struggling with vision issues and has not been using the litter box properly, which means she requires close monitoring and ongoing veterinary care.
Nova’s hospital stay, diagnostics, and treatment have totaled $12,073.22. While I am deeply grateful that she is now stable and home, the financial burden is heavy. This fundraiser will help offset those medical expenses so I can continue focusing on giving Nova the care she needs as she recovers and adapts to her condition.
Nova means the world to me. She’s family, and I want to give her the best chance at living a happy, comfortable life despite her condition. Any contribution, big or small, will go directly toward covering her medical bills and supporting her continued care.
If you can’t donate, please consider sharing Nova’s story. Every bit of support — whether financial or through spreading the word — makes a difference in her journey.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for caring about Nova. Your kindness gives her the chance to heal and to keep being the sweet, curious cat that brightens my life every day.
